East Hartford Hockanum River Commission Meeting
Minutes of September 19, 2012
PRESENT: Christine Durrer, Chair, David Cannell, Paula Saaf, Bruce Jokubitis, Stacy Smith, Anthony Hollister, Mike Dean (Parks & Recreation Representative), Kenneth Sek, Sabrina Townsend, Alicia Healey
CALL TO ORDER: Meeting started at 6:05 pm
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes from March 21, 2012. Bruce 1st and Paula 2nd

OLD BUSINESS:
Mike Dean from Parks and Rec was introduced. He reported on the summer internship by the students from CREC. Twenty-four students participated. Two groups of 12, one in the morning and one in the evening Monday - Friday. They raked and widened the trails in Martin Park and pulled logs from the river. The internship lasted one month and a half.
During 6 Saturdays in June and July, 200 tires were removed, 30 tires still there, 1/2 in furnace, 1/2 embedded. Haven't gotten very far on the bus removal project. Need to contact the DEP about permission to remove the bus. Thanks to the Park & Rec. dept. for all their~ support.
Calendar budget: Christine went to the Rotary meeting to ask for $300. It was denied because they were unhappy that we didn’t help more with the pre-duck race cleanup. It was a communication breakdown. I don’t believe we were asked except when we were in the middle of a Saturday morning tire rollout.
NEW BUSINESS:
Source to Sea cleanup. Paula will do facebook promotion. Kayaks for the water cleanup will come from Parks & Rec. Cleanup will be from Labor Park to Martin Park. Ted will set up trash cans. Park & Rec will provide refreshments. Cleanup is on Saturday September 29th. Christine will contact East Hartford TV. Someone will take pictures of stuff collected.
